On July 14, Old California Coffee House & Eatery in San Marcos Ca, welcomed Keli from www.KeliMusic.com to come play and put on a steel drum performance on our stage. It was a warm Summer night on the patio as the Sun seemed to stay in the air forever. As Keli set up these incredible, yet expensive instruments, the crowd starting filtering in. With the fire pits lit and standing room only, last night was incredible as my friend Keli and his students put on an amazing steel drum recital.

Take a look at the video I captured… and notice the smiles on the faces after they finish.. That’s how I picture learning music.

Over the years, I’ve come to know Keli and in speaking with him, he tells me that the steel drum is one of the easiest instruments learn. If you love music, but think you have no musical talent “LIKE ME”, then Keli says the steel drum is one of the fastest and easiest instruments to learn. He goes on to say how most people can pick it up so quickly, that they begin to learn songs right away. this is extremely important because it keeps their interest. Imagine if it took you a year to learn the chords or the keys or the patterns or repetitions, it could be very frustrating. The steel drum is made for people like me, who have no patience and wants instant results… As I am writing this, I think I am talking myself into taking a lesson. I know these students picked it up right away and they are having a blast.

 Look how much fun these students are having… and you’ll notice the guy in the back is using two… He must be more advanced than the others… I’d be happy if I could just do one and play one song… right?
