Did anyone catch the Memorial Day Special on KPBS last night? It was an amazing show with live performances from Chris Daughtry & Trace Atkins, speaches made by award winning actors and Colin Powell topped it all off with a speech that told America to welcome back our men and women coming home from the war. It was so moving and so emotional, it was impossible to hold back the tears!
They mentioned how we still have 90,000 Americans in Iraq and Afghanistan and over 15,000 men and women have been injured in battle. It got me thinking that it has been almost 11 years since the attack on 9/11… The war has basically bankrupted the US and virtually, the world. It makes me think about how we lost over 5,000 in the attacks of 9/11, but how we are still paying for it today, still losing lives and there is still more to come.
Tell me that I’m not alone when part of me thinks we should have just bombed them both and be done with it…. But we can’t do that because it wasn’t the civilians of Iraq and Afghanistan that did this to us and besides, that would be so in-humane, we just couldn’t do that! After seeing the effects of Hiroshima, I think the US realized that we couldn’t do that again.
What if we just did nothing and just left it alone… It certainly would have been cheaper and we would have lost less lives… But we can’t do that either because then it just invites anyone to come and attack us at anytime… So we can’t do that either…
The only solution is to do what we are doing and that is to go after the people that attacked us, break them down and try to re-build an infrastructure that will promote world peace and economics.
As Americans, we weren’t given many options… All we can do is the right thing… and today, I stand tall, as a proud American, struggling through this economy like everyone else… but, I wouldn’t change it for the world. I love my country and I love the men and women that allow me and my family the freedom to be free in America!
To ALL the Men and Women who have served and are serving in the Military…
Thank You!
I love you and I am very proud of you!
