American Idol Contestant “Paul Cannon” at Old Cal Coffee

Did you miss it? Old California Coffee House and Eatery in San Marcos, Ca showcased another American Idol Hopeful… “Paul Cannon”, who played Live Music with his band “The Paul Cannon Band“ on June 24th, 2011. It was an amazing show and if you missed it, I am so sorry, but you will have to wait a couple of months before you can see them play Live again at Old Cal Coffee. Although the band carries Paul’s name as many of the great bands do, DO NOT underestimate the rest of the team! You have Christine Cyr, who played Cello that night, is an amazing Cello player and singer in her own right….. With Christine on Cello, who reminds me of Brent Kutzle of One Republic, This band is poised for greatness. Oh yea! and btw, did I mention, she is about 5 months pregnante and due in October… Congratulations! but I’m trying to book you in October… Oh well, darn…  I guess having a baby will have to take priority…. lol

On a serious note, the bassist, Michael Pratschner, plays bass, harmonica and sings is awesome in his own chill way. As many bass players are, they kind of hang in the back providing the much needed beat, especially when there are no drums, but Michael is one of those rare bassists that you can actually hear play. Meaning he doesn’t get drowned out by a blaring guitar and he is strong enough to really pluck the cords, so again, you can really follow him as a musician. It’s a cool thing where he will stand out, but yet at the same time, blending into the band without overpowering them at the same time! I guess you just have to see it for yourself. I see a lot of bands, about three a week play at my venue, so I can tell one stands out above and beyond the norm. Great Job Michael! You’re a treat to listen to!

Here’s a short little clip of Paul’s Original Song called “We can change the world” by Paul Cannon:

Ok, pretty darn Awesome Right? I know and I can’t wait to get them back at Old Cal Coffee to Play at Live Music set for us again. But in the meantime, I’d like to share a bit more about these incredible musicians and how we got to know them. I remember seeing http://www.paulcannonband.com/ on a piece of paper and I can’t remember if someone told me about Paul or if I was doing research for local San Diego Musicians, but finally, one day after cleaning up my desk, which I seem to do about every 2-3 weeks, because I just end up working in piles…. If anyone out there is like me, then you know what I mean and yes I have filing cabinets, and it gets there eventually, but I like my piles, I know exactly where everything is… in my organized chaos… anyways, back to Paul, I went to his website and was really impressed. I was able to get in touch with him and he agreed to play for us, which I was thrilled about!

Here’s another video of the band Performing “Homegrown”, one of my favorite songs by the Paul Cannon Band, is a song about San Diego! I think you are going to LOVE it… take a look!

I hope you are all getting to know the Paul Cannon Band, because this band is going places and to say you knew them when they played local San Diego gigs will be an amazing story to tell your friends & family one day! I describe Paul Cannon’s style as Paul Cannon’s style… It’s really hard to compare him to anyone, because he does remind me of a few people, but no one reminds me of him…. meaning, he is his own unique individual with his own style, tone & genre! Ok, If I had to describe Paul, I would say he reminds me alittle bit of Elvis, YES ELVIS, in a way that Elvis used to sign and dance or shake on stage…. Remember that, well Paul doesn’t move anything Like Elvis, he has his own style as I was saying, but he does have the swagger of an Elvis, but in down to earth way with some cool groovy dance moves to go with it too! He has the power in his voice of a Chris Daughtry, an American Idol Final Four in the 5th season, and if there was a band that I could compare them to would by Ryan Tedder and One Republic. I don’t know if it is because Christine plays Cello like Brent Kutzle of One Republic or if it’s because the only other band I’ve seen play live that has a Cello Player is One Republic. I’m not sure, Paul is great and with Michael & Christine in his corner, They’ve got a real chance to hit it BIG TIME! Good Luck Guys… Until then…. Rock on!
