If you’ve been watching American Idol this season, you’ve been in for a treat this year as the contestants are better than ever and the judges turned out to be spectacular! Even without Simon Cowell, although I do miss his on air antics…. lol
In this picture to my left, (picture by Associated Press) I feature American Idol contestant Casey Abrams… But I’m not here to talk about Casey today… I want to introduce you to Mindi Abair. She is the hot blonde saxophone player that has made two guest appearances on Idol this season. Now you might be wondering why I would be talking about Mindi…. I don’t promote her and she has not played at Old California Coffee House, so why would I have any interest in this artist?
I made an amazing discovery today, but before I tell you about my discovery, let me give you a little history… In 1999, I was invited out to dinner with another couple. We went all out that night, well, at least my friend did, he ordered a limo, took us up to Long Beach for dinner and night out on the town. Dinner was great, but the night was still young, so we went to a club to see a band play! This place was like any local venue that you would find here in San Diego or Los Angeles… meaning it wasn’t a stadium, more like a Hard Rock or House of Blues, but not so commercial like that… Anyways, guess what band was playing?
YES! That’s Right! You Guessed it…. Mindi Abair That’s her on the cover of her first CD and if you look closely at it, you can tell that this is personally autographed to me from her…. Let me remind you… This was from twelve years ago! She was an unsigned Singer Songwriter musician, playing local gigs, just like the musicians that I am booking at Old California Coffee House and Eatery now…. And twelve years later, the overnight success (yea right) is on American Idol and is booked solid all year… all across the country! and even the World as she is traveling to Japan right now!
Congratulations to Mindi Abair! I remember you being very sweet and you really enjoyed talking to us and the rest of fans after your show. Please don’t ever lose that…
To ALL the Great Musicians and Bands we have playing at Old California Coffee House & Eatery, Keep up the good work! Keep playing your hearts out and I will do everything I can to help promote you! Who knows, if everything works out and the stars align, then maybe you will be on American Idol too! I want dibs on tickets if you make it… Mindi didn’t call me for some reason…. lol
And to all the Old Cal Coffee Customers and fans of great music around San Diego… Old California Coffee House has live music every Friday& Saturday night from 7 – 10 PM and on Sunday’s, we feature classical music from 3-5 pm. The next time you visit Old California Coffee House & Eatery in San Marcos, Ca and watch a band play, you just might be watching a future American Idol Star! So take the time to get know these musicians, buy their CD’s and tip them five bucks! They will appreciate VERY MUCH. I know the $10 I spent for Mindi’s CD in 1999, meant a lot more to her then, than it would today. Who knows, maybe one of our stars, will be America’s future Stars.
Oh Yea! and To Mindi Abair… If you are out there listening…. and I know you are…. I would like to invite you to come play at Old California Coffee House & Eatery in San Marcos, Ca. It’s abut 15 minutes away from your Oceanside & Carlsbad gigs you have coming up this Summer. I’m just saying… a small intimate gig of about 100 people at a Coffee Shop for Old Time Sakes! Let Me Know…
