Heloise Love and her unique band of instruments

Heloise Love and her lovely ladies show up an hour early to get ready to play at Old Cal Coffee last Friday Night. They looked like a million bucks, so I took lots of photos and they sound even better, so I took some video too. I’d like to introduce you to this band as I feel they have a lot to offer as they play so many great instruments and sing and write their own music too! We had a few moments before their performance and shot this video… It gives me great pleasure to introduce you to Heloise Love, Kim Donaldson and Virginia’s own, Miss Darla!

Heloise Love and her band are the only musicians we have playing at Old Cal Coffee that play the Violin & the Mountain Dulcimer. Only one other band other than Heloise Love even has a Mandolin and if you ask most people what a Mandolin or a Mountain Dulcimer are, they give you a blank stare most of the time. Kim Donaldson (classically trained Violinist turned bluegrass and Celtic Fiddler along with Virginia’s own, Miss Darla, make Heloise Love the most interesting band we have playing at Old Cal Coffee… Take a listen to Kim playing the violin.

Just take a watch and listen for yourself. This video was shot with a little hand held device, so sorry if it is not perfect, but you’ll get the idea of how these ladies can rock it! if you get a chance to see them, they play all over San Diego and about every 6 to 8 weeks at Old California Coffee House and Eatery!

Miss Darla, who looked like an Angel in her black dress with red trim and red boots and red flower in her hair, sang this song called Wagon Wheel talked about Rock me Mama like wagon wheel, Rock me mama like the wind and rain, rock me mama like a southbound train… etc it was one of those songs that just made you want to play an instrument, it was one of those songs that once you hear it once, you were singing the chorus along with Miss Darla… She also wrote and sang Georgia Line, Hart’s Engineers, Rose Hill and Revenuer that night too! I’m telling you, these gals can sing, but they can also make playing any instrument look cool! I hope you’ll have the enjoyment that I have when I get a chance to see them Live at Old California Coffee House in San Marcos, Ca!
