It’s a typical Friday night at Old California Coffee House & Eatery in San Marcos, Ca! A great band is playing live music on patio with Firepits lit, keeping everyone warm. The place is packed, inside and out, as it always, as it is on Friday nights. Mike and Jocyln are just settling down in the living room with a party of 14, enjoying the food, the music and of course the company. Jon Ji is just getting warmed up as he plays his first set; the crowd is already cheering, it’s loud! But not too loud, I can still hear all the sounds… It’s funy to me as I can focus on all the things around me….. I can hear the espresso grinders, grinding the beans to a fine ground, ready to server that next latte, the milk steamers frothing and steaming as fast as the machines can go! My Friday night crew at the coffee shop is pumping in total harmony! I can hear the band palying outside, the conversations happening at the register and the drinks being called out at the pick up station! Karen, Francine, Michael…. Soy Vanilla Latte, Almond Rocha, Mexican Hot Chocalte, Creme Burrle, it’s all happening so fast, I seem to notice everything going on around me, but yet at the same time, everyone can still sit down, relax and enjoy and conversation with friends, play games like chess, checkers and Trivial Pursuit (80′s version of course!)….
Outside, Stand up Bass player Ritch Right, is strumming the stand up bass with his eyes closed as he is feeling the music, feeling the crowd and totally into his jam! No sheet music necessary! It’s a lot of fun to watch these guys play! Finally, to the crowd’s dismay, Jon and crew take a break… A few minutes later, I’m standing behind espresso machine and I hear the crowd going wild outside! I’m thinking what’s going on? Jon just took a break, so he wasn’t playing… I hadn’t noticed, but jon brought one of his students to the coffee shop. This wasn’t just an ordinary music student, this was child star in the making Juliana Fox! That’s right, Jon Ji discovered this talent and took her under his wing and …. Well, see for yourself… Oh yea… Did I mention? Juliana is 10 years old…
